Some moms think that they can’t work outside of the home because they don’t have the time or their children would feel neglected. On the flip side of that are the women who have great careers and just aren’t sure that they would have the time or the energy for children – even though they desperately want to have them. You really can have both, and you don’t need to choose between a career and motherhood.
If you already have children, you’ll want to help them get used to the idea that you’re going to have a career. Explain to them about the hours you’ll be working and how things around the house will get accomplished. If you have a partner or spouse, he or she can also help with many of the things you may not be able to get to once you start work. Of course, the ages of your children will affect how much they are capable of doing and how much they understand about why you want a career.
For women who are already working and who want to have children, advance planning is always a good idea. That way you and the people you work with can be prepared for the time that you’ll need to be off work. Employers appreciate people who are thoughtful and who take the time to be up front about their plans.
Many women successfully raise children and have a career at the same time. You can be one of them if you want to put in the time and the dedication. Consider it carefully before you make your final choice, plan ahead and you’ll be ready to take on your next life adventure.
